Our Vision

The National Language Institute of Curaçao envisions a harmonious and inclusive multilingual society where Papiamentu is not only spoken as a mother tongue but is also embraced as a second language by the entire community. We aspire for citizens to master not only Papiamentu but also the foreign languages Dutch, English, and Spanish at an acceptable level, creating a community where linguistic diversity is celebrated.

Our Mission

Our mission is to play a crucial role in implementing and promoting the government-established language policy. We strive to promote language awareness, planning, and development through two dedicated departments: the Akademia di Papiamentu and the Department of Modern Foreign Languages (Dutch, English, and Spanish).

Our departments

  1. Akademia di Papiamentu
    • Promotion of language awareness through unified language policy and planning.
Development of Papiamentu in terms of spelling, standardization, grammar, dictionaries, language corpora, and learning materials.

  2. Department of Modern Foreign Languages
    • Guidance and support in implementing the guidelines as outlined in the National Language Policy Curaçao.
    • Focus on Dutch, English, and Spanish as foreign and instructional languages.
